Tonnara di Scopello

Located along the dramatic coastline of northwest Sicily, the Tonnara di Scopello is a centuries-old tuna fishing village turned seaside retreat. It is one of Sicily's oldest tuna factories with origins dating back to the 13th century. With its rustic stone buildings, turquoise waters, and views of the iconic Faraglioni rocks, it feels suspended in time. We fell in love with this spot the moment we saw it, and we’re so excited to share it with you.

Scopello 

Scopello is a picturesque seaside village known for its turquoise waters, and historic tuna fishery (tonnara). The Tonnara di Scopello sits just below the main village of Scopello. Below are restaurant recommendations while you spend time in the area.

Places to Visit near Scopello

There’s plenty to see and do just outside Scopello—whether you’re up for a swim, a stroll, or a little exploring. Here are a few attractions and towns nearby if you’re looking to venture out.

This is an archaeological park just a 30 minute drive from Scopello, featuring a well-preserved ancient Greek temple and theater set in the countryside. 

Castellammare del Golfo

This coastal town is known for its picturesque harbor, historical castle and lively dining scene. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and trattorias offering delicious Sicilian dishes. Additionally, the town has a variety of shops where you can buy souvenirs, local crafts, and artisan products. It is 20 minutes driving distance from the Tonnara (10,4km).

Marsala

Famous for its wine, Marsala is a lovely town with a charming historic center. You'll find several wine bars and enotecas where you can taste the local Marsala wine, as well as local markets and shops selling artisan products. The town also has many great restaurants where you can sample authentic Sicilian dishes.It is 1 hour and 10 minutes driving distance from the Tonnara (77km).

Museum of the Tonnara di Scopello

Located right at our wedding venue, this small museum is housed in the historic tuna fishery at the Tonnara. It offers a glimpse into the traditional tuna fishing industry that once thrived here, with vintage tools, photos, and stories of the people who lived and worked along this coast. We may have a guided tour set up - stay tuned!

Erice is a stunning medieval town perched on top of Mount Erice in the Trapani province of Sicily. The town is known for its well-preserved historic center, characterized by narrow cobblestone streets, stone arches, and ancient churches. From the town, you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, coastline, and even the Egadi Islands on clear days. The driving distance from Scopello is approximately 48 minutes (35,8km).

Spiaggia Guidaloca 

Just a 5-minute drive from the Tonnara, Spiaggia Guidaloca is a beautiful pebble beach set in a wide, sheltered bay. It's perfect for a swim, lounging in the sun, or grabbing a drink from one of the nearby beach bars. A great spot to unwind before or after the festivities!

As the regional capital, Palermo offers a wealth of shopping and dining experiences. You can take a stroll through the historic markets, such as Ballarò and Vucciria to find an abundance of local produce, street food, and unique items. The city also has a diverse culinary scene, ranging from traditional trattorias to fine-dining establishments. This is 1 hour and 10 minutes driving distance from the Tonnara (71km).

Segesta

Segesta is an ancient archaeological site located in the northwestern part of Sicily. It's famous for its well-preserved Doric temple, built around the 5th century BCE, and its Greek theater, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The site is easily accessible by car from Scopello, with a driving distance of approximately 30-45 minute (26km). The entrance fee for Segesta is usually around €6-10 per person, depending on the season and if there are any ongoing exhibitions or events. Guided tours may also be available at an additional cost.

Mazara del Vallo

Mazara del Vallo is a picturesque coastal town situated in the southwestern part of Sicily. It's well-known for its charming historic center called the "Kasbah," characterized by narrow streets and a blend of Arab, Norman, and Baroque architectural styles. The town is also famous for its vibrant fishing industry and is home to a variety of seafood restaurants offering fresh, local catches. Mazara del Vallo is about a 1.5-hour drive from Scopello (83,4km).
